Tour Plan

  • Altitude: 2000 m to 3300m
  • Time Taken: 45 min ( 20 KM Drive ) , 8km Trek ( 7 Hours)
  • Campsite: Lidwas

The journey begins with an early morning pick-up from Srinagar at 6:00 AM, followed by a scenic drive to Fakirgujri, Dara, situated approximately 20 kilometers from the city. Upon arrival, the trek leader will provide a briefing about the trek, ensuring you are fully prepared for the adventure ahead. Before setting off, a packed lunch will be provided to keep your energy up throughout the day.

The trek starts with a steady ascent, following the meandering path along the Dara Nala. Along the way, we will pass through key locations such as Padshahpal, Digwas, Darawani, and Bobjan before finally reaching our destination, Lidwas. Lidwas is situated 8 kilometers from Fakirgujri Dara, and the entire journey will take approximately 7 hours to complete. As we ascend, we will encounter a rich variety of flora and fauna, including various species of birds and the Himalayan langur. The area is also home to the endangered Hangul deer and the elusive black bear, adding to the region’s wildlife charm.

The trail requires us to cross the Dara Nala multiple times, sometimes wading through the river, and at other points, crossing over bridges. The continuous ascent can be physically demanding, but the scenic beauty surrounding us makes every step worth it. We will make a stop at Bobjan for a well-deserved lunch break before continuing on the trek.

After several hours of steady climbing, we will reach Lidwas, located at an altitude of 3,300 meters (10,827 feet). This stunning campsite will serve as our base camp for the night. From Lidwas, we are treated to incredible views of the surrounding pine and birch forests, as well as a distant view of Srinagar city. The area is dotted with Gujjar mud and wood hutments, offering a glimpse into the lives of the pastoral gypsies who roam these highlands. The evening brings a magical sunset, with the soft light casting an enchanting glow over the entire landscape.

Once we arrive at the campsite, you can settle in and relax, enjoying a warm cup of evening tea with snacks. As night falls, a delicious bowl of warm soup will be served, followed by a hearty dinner, complete with a sweet treat to end the day on a high note. The nights in these mountain regions are typically filled with stars, offering a perfect opportunity for star-gazing. If the skies are clear, the celestial beauty above will leave you in awe, making it an unforgettable experience in the heart of the mountains.

Standing tall at 3,966 meters, Mt. Mahadev is an iconic peak in Srinagar, visible from nearly every corner of the city. From the base camp at Lidwas, the trek begins with a gradual ascent, gradually gaining elevation as we approach the summit ridge. Once we reach this ridge, we cross over to the southern side of the mountain, where we will scramble our way towards the summit.

The route to the peak is characterized by a series of undulating ascents and descents, as we navigate through boulders and rocky outcrops. The trail is often snow-bound until June, adding a rugged yet picturesque dimension to the hike. Along the way, we are treated to awe-inspiring vistas of the surrounding landscapes. It is a great place to shop not too far from New York. We took the bus from Port Authority and traveled through the countryside to get there.
